Our Mysterious October Performance: 10/18

Thanks to all who came to our season opener!  We had a great time and it’s always amazing to see what happens.  Our next show will be Saturday, October 18 when we’ll be back to our usual start time of 8pm with doors opening at 7:32.   Our theme will be MYSTERY.

We will again be performing at our downtown Vancouver location: 915 W. 13th Street, on the corner of W. 13th and Jefferson. Click here for a map and look for our True!mprov signs the night of the performance.

As our regular audience knows by now, this is a space we are borrowing from Open House Ministries, the family shelter for which we ask for donations of $3/person or a personal care item each month. Open House Ministries helps homeless families get back on their feet again by providing shelter, counseling, addiction recovery services, and assistance with job skills.

See you on October 18!

New Location on May 17

Join us for the next True!mprov performance on May 17 at a new location: 915 W. 13th Street, in the corner of W. 13th and Jefferson in Vancouver, WA. Click here for a map. Doors open at 7:30, and the program starts at 8:00 p.m. This month’s theme is “Growth.”

Open House Ministries
In lieu of an admission charge, please bring $3 or a personal care item (shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, diapers, etc.) to benefit Open House Ministries in Vancouver. Open House helps homeless families get back on their feet again by providing shelter, counseling, addiction recovery services, and assistance with job skills, and has graciously let us use their facility for May’s performance.

Malaria Prevention
Every 30 seconds, an African child dies of Malaria–that’s over a million deaths a year, making it the leading cause of death for African children under the age of five. Because of the extreme level of poverty and lack of education, 90% of malaria deaths occur in Africa.

A mosquito net is one of the least expensive and most effective means of minimizing this risk for African children. A net costs less than $10 to buy, and this month Oasis Christian Center is having a malaria net drive. We invite you to join them in their goal of providing 10 nets through World Vision, who will use the money raised for the purchase of mosquito nets in six African countries that are of greatest need. (You can also learn more by taking this online malaria quiz from Compassion International.) We’ll also be accepting donations for this project at our May program.

See you May 17!

Next Performance: April 19

Our next performance is scheduled for April 19, when the theme will be a surprise. (No, seriously, the theme will be “surprise.”) We’ll be performing at our regular venue, Walnut Grove Church fellowship hall, located at 6004 NE 72nd Ave in Vancouver. Doors open at 7:32 pm and the performance begins at 8pm.

Did you know that each month, Clark County food banks give food to 26,000 people in 8,000 households? And a recent Wall Street Journal front page article (3/20/08) pointed out an increased need for emergency food assistance at the same time as the US Department of Agriculture has dramatically decreased distribution of surplus commodities to food banks. That’s one reason Oasis Christian Center is holding a food drive in April to benefit FISH of Orchards, a member of the Oregon Food Bank network.

So this month we’re asking for donations of non-perishable food items, in lieu of an admission fee. Or if you prefer, you can bring a donation of personal care items (shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, diapers, etc.) to benefit Open House Ministries in Vancouver. Open House helps homeless families get back on their feet again by providing shelter, counseling, addiction recovery services, and assistance with job skills.

Or just bring $3, and we’ll pass it along to one of these organizations.

We hope to see you there!

IGNITION Training Materials

We just wrapped up our weekend in Dallas, where we performed and did a couple of workshops for IGNITION, a Christian young adult leadership summit. We decided to put the training materials up on the website to make them more widely available. Just click the “Training” link above to access them.

Next Performance March 8!

The curtain rises again Saturday, March 8 for another performance from True!mprov. We’ll be performing at our regular venue, Walnut Grove Church fellowship hall, located at 6004 NE 72nd Ave in Vancouver. Doors open at 7:32 pm and the performance begins at 8pm.

Although we do not charge admission, we request donations of a personal care item (shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, diapers, etc.) or $3 per person to benefit Open House Ministries in Vancouver. Open House helps homeless families get back on their feet again by providing shelter, counseling, addiction recovery services, and assistance with job skills.

We hope to see you there!

True!mprov is On the Road in February

This month, True!mprov will not be at Walnut Grove. Instead, we’ll be performing for the residents of Open House Ministries. Open House helps homeless families get back on their feet again by providing shelter, counseling, addiction recovery services, and assistance with job skills. This is the organization you help us support every month with your donations of cash and personal care items. We decided to hold our February performance there in part because many of the residents do not have transportation to our regular shows.

The week after our performance at Open House, True!mprov will be going to Dallas, Texas (yee haw!) where we have been invited to participate in IGNITION, a Christian Young Adult Leadership Summit conference. At IGNITION, we will be performing for the conference attendees as well as giving some workshops to share with others how to start an Improv team ministry. We are looking forward to seeing our regular audience at Walnut Grove for our MARCH performance. Details will be sent out ahead of time. In the meantime, if you want to contact us, get more info, or would like to join True!mprov, please e-mail us at info@trueimprov.com and we’ll be in touch with you right away!
